Most paint failures in Summit County are prep failures or timing failures — the wrong product, the wrong sheen, or an exterior coat that went on too late in the season. We spec the coating for the elevation and the exposure, prep properly, and schedule exterior work inside the window it can actually cure in.

Working at altitude

• UV above 9,000 feet destroys a finish far faster than it does at sea level — the coating and the sheen have to be chosen for it.
• Freeze-thaw cycling opens joints and lifts paint that was applied in the wrong window. The exterior season here is short and it matters.
• Beetle-kill pine, log and heavy timber each take stain differently, and none of them forgive a rushed prep.
• Snow load and ice damming mean trim, soffit and deck details have to be detailed for water, not just for looks.
